I decided to turn this interview into a podcast because I think Ualá is becoming an important company in the region. And it is a company we are going to continue to hear more from as they grow.
It has been said many times in the past couple of years: “in the future, every company will be a fintech”. But what does that really mean and how do we get there?
The neobank space has really heated up the last couple of years. The leaders are getting great traction with millions of customers now and the rapid growth is showing no signs of slowing down. These fintech companies have really changed consumer expectations now and we are seeing banks react to these new dynamics.
As finance went digital in 2020 the identity verification space became hot. Suddenly every bank needed to onboard customers online and they had to verify the identity of these customers. So, established companies that could provide a simple way to do this were in hot demand.
The use of income and employment data in lending has become much more widespread in recent years. For any fintech-enabled lender, access to this data instantly via API is critical to their ability to provide a seamless borrower experience. And of course, they want coverage of as much of the working population as possible.
More than any other vertical, the business lending space has gone through a transformation these past couple of years. And those companies providing digital lending solutions have seen interest in their services skyrocket.
